What is the minimum age to start woodwind lessons at Music & Dance Academy?

Learning the flute, clarinet, or saxophone is an exciting and rewarding journey—but like any instrument, it helps to start when a student is physically ready. Because woodwinds require a combination of breath support, finger coordination, and reading skills, we typically recommend beginning lessons once a child is able to comfortably hold the instrument and focus on basic music reading.

Every student develops at their own pace, so there’s no strict age requirement—we’re happy to help families decide when the time is right. Our instructors are experienced in working with beginners of all ages and tailor their approach to meet each student’s needs. When the physical and cognitive pieces come together, students are well-equipped to enjoy learning and making music from day one.

Do I need any prior experience?

There’s no need to be intimidated by trying something new – especially at Music & Dance Academy. We welcome all musicians, from beginners to advanced professionals and everyone in between. With faculty expertise spanning multiple disciplines, students are well-positioned to develop their skills in the style that inspires them most.
